James has a multidisciplinary career path that diverted from economics to marine research. After completing a degree in Economics from the University of California, Irvine, U.S.A., James served as a Logistics Officer in both the United States Navy and the Royal Australian Navy. With a gained interest in the marine environment, James completed his MSc at the University of Wollongong where he studied temperate reef assemblages within NSW Marine Parks. James then undertook a position with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) in San Diego, California, U.S.A where he managed fieldwork, oversaw citizen-science programs and contributed to highly migratory species life history and ecological research in the advancement of national and international marine resource management. James is excited to bring his experience and knowledge back to the University of Wollongong. He is interested in marine conservation and marine governance and plans to contribute in every possible way to the Sustaining Coastal and Maritime projects of the Global Challenges Program.
