Chris Gibson

Professor Chris Gibson is the inaugural Director of the UOW Global Challenges Program which was launched in 2013. He joined UOW in August 2005 after holding academic positions at UNSW and the University of Sydney. He was instrumental in establishing the Australian Centre for Cultural Environmental Research (AUSCCER) at UOW. From 2005-2010 Prof. Gibson led Australia's largest ever study of the contributions of festivals and events to regional development, including the participation of 480 festivals over three states. From 2010-2013 he was an inaugural ARC Future Fellow, and in 2013 was an international expert contributor to the UN Creative Economy Report. He is currently editor of the academic journal, Australian Geographer.

Chris is a member of the Australian Council of Learned Academies Expert Working Group Securing Australia's Future - Australia's Comparative Advantage and in 2015, the Chief Scientist's expert working group, revising National Science and Research Priorities and undertaking national capability mapping for Environmental Change.
